CYSA Offering Futsal Training

Now Open to all CYSA players, Cumberland Youth Soccer is offering Futsal Clinics right in Cumberland through the New England Futsal Academy (!!

Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played across the world. The nature of the game places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure. As a result, it is an excellent way to perfect soccer competencies that can be translated into the traditional game.

Many of the top soccer players in the world played Futsal in their youth and credit it with supporting their soccer development; players of the caliber of Pele, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Deco, Xavi, and Cesc Fabregas are amongst many who have played Futsal to develop their skills.

Traditionally, Futsal is a five-a-side game, normally played on a flat indoor field with hockey sized goals and a size 4 ball with a reduced bounce. It is played to touchlines like the outdoor soccer game. Games are 20 minutes per half, played to a stopping clock (similar to basketball) with time-outs permitted. There are a number of differences from the traditional version of small sided soccer, but the dominant elements are the absence of rebound boards and amendments in the rules that encourage skillful, creative, free moving play.
